Learning how to just “be” in a busy, busy world where accomplishments and scratched off to do lists are worn as badges of honor eludes most women I talk with.
Those who juggle family, friends, church, social life—oh, and the gym—along with careers seem to have the same feelings of fatigue, anxiety, and a nagging sense that they are not right in their spirit.
Getting it all done may feel productive in the world’s sense of the word but what is it producing in me as a woman, as a person or in my relationships with others? Is this truly accomplishment or fulfilling?
Have you ever just stopped for a minute or 15 to R.E.S.T. (release everything, stop trying) or maybe take a walk around your neighborhood and just be in that moment? Have you ever actually written down on paper, what you really value in life? Are they things? Do they go into the innermost part of your spirit? Are you living from that place?
Is there something you want to accomplish that comes from a dream or deep desire?
Sometimes our true selves get pushed down in the day to day of our existence. Leading lives of quiet desperation trying so hard to be all things to all people and at the end of each day we’re just tired. The morning brings dread because we know that we’re going to do it all over again—like in the movie, Groundhog Day. We can’t make it stop.
Today for just a few minutes, stop and really think about the different areas of your life—relationships, work, spiritual, leisure, material, creativity, health and ask yourself, “Am I living authentically in all areas of my life?”
Write down what you would like your life to look like in these areas—are you there? If not, are there some small steps you can take to move closer to your true self? Jot those down too.
What’s it going to take to get you there? The good news is that if you’ve decided you’re not in the place of living true to you—you can make it happen!
